Food Insecurity

Combatting Hunger One Meal at a Time

Hunger and malnutrition cast long shadows over too many lives, with nearly 690 million people worldwide going to bed hungry each night. Food insecurity occurs when people don’t have enough to eat and lack access to reliable food sources. Globally, children suffer the most, facing stunted growth and impaired cognitive development due to lack of proper nutrition. Many folks experiencing food insecurity don’t know the source of their next meal and struggle to put food on the table for their families. It’s a systemic issue facing nations across the globe, including the United States.

Food Insecurity Programs

Our food insecurity programs are designed to tackle this crisis head-on, providing immediate relief through food distribution while empowering communities with sustainable solutions like community gardens and agricultural training. Join us in the fight against hunger and help create a world where no one has to wonder where their next meal will come from.

Migrant Meal Distribution in Los Chiles

At the beginning of 2025, Casa Esperanza, a shelter once vital to migrant families, was forced to shut its doors. The sudden freeze in U.S. foreign aid left the building empty, the beds unfilled, and the future uncertain for those fleeing violence, poverty, and persecution. But from that void, something extraordinary happened.

Volunteers formerly serving at Casa Esperanza didn’t walk away. Instead, they joined with us to continue what was started. Together, we picked up the torch. With deep community roots and a shared mission of compassion, we began preparing and distributing meals once again to migrants arriving in Los Chiles. We’ve forged new partnerships, reignited the spirit of service, and are reaching as many as we can—despite limited resources.

Each day, families arrive exhausted, hungry, and uncertain about what comes next. We offer them not only warm meals but also dignity, care, and a reminder that they are not forgotten. While we cannot yet provide shelter, our meal program is a vital touchpoint—often the only hot food these travelers receive.

Thanks to the generous support of our donors, our grant has provided 4,000 meals to hungry families and children in 2025. In February alone, the program served 1,080 meals to both migrant and local families. Many of the recipients were children. The youngest was just two years old.

But to keep going, we need you.

Meals often consist of a healthy and nutritious mix of rice, beans, meats, and fruits and vegetables.

Give Now & Share a Meal

Your gift to the SunRaising Foundation directly fuels this ongoing mission. It supports the volunteers who cook and serve. It buys the rice, beans, and fresh produce. It keeps hope alive for people who have lost nearly everything. With your help, we can not only sustain this work—we can grow it and funding is urgently needed to continue this important work.

Each meal costs just $2.43. And for April, every dollar you give is matched up to $2,000—doubling your impact. 100% of your donation goes directly to meals. Not overhead. Not admin. Just food.

Please consider giving today and help us turn compassion into action and make Los Chiles a place of welcome once more.

Food Distribution at Trinity Cafe

Food insecurity and hunger can sometimes seem like an issue that’s half a world away, but it’s happening right now in our community. In partnership with Feeding Tampa Bay, our team serves meals at the Trinity Cafe every other Thursday. In 2025 we aim to serve 5,000 meals in our community. Since January, we’ve served 1,498 meals alongside additional community partners.
