A Night of Giving: Recapping Our First Annual “Lights Out Charity Poker Night”

It was a beautiful South Florida evening as community members gathered at 4&CO Coworking Space in Land O’ Lakes for a truly unique experience – our first annual Lights Out Charity Poker Night! This evening of friendly competition wasn’t just about poker; it was about making a difference for those affected by recent hurricanes. With only the flicker of candles and battery-powered tea lights to illuminate the room, 42 attendees, including 20 players, came together for a night to remember.

A Heartfelt Victory and Generous Gesture

In an inspiring twist, Lisa Green, Founder of Union Financial Services, took home the grand prize of $500. True to the evening’s spirit, Lisa immediately donated her winnings to the 4&CO cleaning staff who had recently experienced hardship due to the storm. Alongside her contribution, extra food from the event was also provided to the staff, exemplifying the generosity and sense of community that filled the room.

An Evening of Fun, Funds, and Partnerships for a Cause

With music, refreshments, and even a bounce house, the night was full of laughter, connection, and community spirit. But the evening’s success extended far beyond good times. Thanks to our incredible attendees, we raised an impressive $3,500 to support local families impacted by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.

In a major boost to these efforts, our new partnership with the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay introduced a dollar-for-dollar matching opportunity to double the impact. Additional fundraising through BNI United of Land O’ Lakes added another $1,500, bringing the total to $5,000 – which, thanks to matching, results in a remarkable $10,000 in relief funds!

Direct Support to Families and Hard-Hit Communities

Beyond the funds raised at the event, the SunRaising Foundation continued its essential work in the region, distributing $1,500 in gift cards to families throughout Pasco County. These funds included a $100 Publix gift card to a mother of six who had lost all her refrigerated food due to extended power outages.

Our partnership with Smart Home Services also helped distribute $1,400 in Home Depot gift cards, which enabled the purchase of solar-powered lanterns. These lanterns were delivered to Harbor View, a 55+ mobile home community heavily damaged by the storms and awaiting further disaster relief assistance. These contributions ensure residents have both light and hope as they rebuild.

Thank You to Our Supporters and Vision for Future Impact

Thanks to the combined efforts of attendees, sponsors, donors, and partners, our first annual Lights Out Charity Poker Night was a resounding success. The funds raised will have an immediate, direct impact on addressing food insecurity, rebuilding efforts, and sustainable recovery in our region.

We’re excited to watch as these contributions continue to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families, strengthening our community as a whole. A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who joined and supported this night of impact. We look forward to seeing the long-term change inspired by your generosity!
